According to the rules, if you're immortal, you can't be with your true love. So neither Pete nor Gabe could be with each other when each was immortal. Pete was with Ashlee only because he couldn't be with Gabe. And no matter what Gabe wanted back in the first universe, he couldn't be with Pete because Pete was immortal. Now that neither one is, they CAN be with each other, and it can be true love. TRUE LOVE. YES.
(and I know we had that whole long conversation about Pete and Ashlee, but dude, this is fiction and Pete and Gabe can be each other's true loves if we want. SO THERE.)
