write this a month or so ago but never put it on lj
so why are you so fucking obsessed with ufos, anyway? joel asks after sonny finishes an enthusiastic story about patterns in the movements of venus that proves that they’re watching, punctuated with stabbing hand gestures until his glasses slip down his nose.
sonny looks at the sky for a second. joel can see the stars reflected in his glasses.
i don’t think it’s that weird, he says eventually. someone’s gotta be out there. somewhere.
that doesn’t mean they’re here, joel says. there’s a lot of fucking galaxies. doesn’t mean they’re watching us.
he watches sonny breathe, staring up to venus. at this angle the bus headlights glare off his glasses; joel can’t see his eyes.
i just can’t stand feeling this alone, sonny says.
